Notice of amendment to flying regulations for Highgrove House

August 31st, 2018 Posted by Bristol & Wessex Aeroplane Club

On September 10th 2018 the flying regulations will change for all aircraft flying in the vicinity of Highgrove House, Gloucestershire. The secretary of state has decided that it is in the public interest to restrict flying near and over Highgrove House due to security considerations associated with this location with it being the residence of some of the members of the royal family.

These new regulations come into effect on the 10th September 2018 meaning that no aircraft is to fly below 2000 feet AMSL within 1.5 nautical miles of Highgrove House. This does not apply to the national police air service, the Queens helicopter flight or the emergency medical services. Also not included are any aircraft operated by a member of the Royal family or with permission by the Gloucestershire Constabulary Royalty Household Protection Group.

This regulation has been put into place for the need of security for the members of the Royal family and been requested by the security services and the secretary of state, the term ‘aircraft’ includes aircraft as classified by Part 1 of Schedule 4 to the Air Navigation Order 2016. It also includes, by virtue of article 23 of that Order, any small balloon, any kite weighing not more than two kilograms, any small unmanned aircraft and any parachute including a parascending parachute.
