Could you meet the Bristol & Wessex Aeroplane Club 45 challenge?

May 29th, 2018 Posted by Bristol & Wessex Aeroplane Club

Six cadets from 2442 Westbury on Trym Air Cadets have taken part in the Bristol and Wessex Aeroplane Club “45 Challenge” which has been designed to emulate the renowned WW2 pilots minimal training regime.

The aim of the challenge was to see whether the UK’s future RAF pilots could learn to take-off, fly an accurate 1000 foot circuit and land a Cessna C182 aircraft back at Bristol Airport on their own with only 45 minutes instructor led flight training!

Of course aviation safety is our top priority so this wasn’t completed in a real aircraft but in our Redbird Flight Simulator and all 6 cadets have beaten the challenge. Some of the cadets have completed some glider flying so have a bit of aviation background, but all six weren’t prepared for how busy flying a circuit would be.

The training in the flight simulator consisted of 4 circuits around Bristol Airport before each cadet went solo to complete the same circuit, once they completed the challenge each cadet was awarded a certificate of recognition for completing the task.

This challenge has been great for the cadets and allowed our fantastic motion flight simulator to be experienced and give valuable training and experience.
