New full motion flight simulator installed

November 27th, 2016 Posted by Bristol & Wessex Aeroplane Club

We have recently purchased and installed our very own full motion aircraft simulator, known as a Redbird MCX the simulator is the only one of its kind found in the UK and is ideal for us to provide enhanced training to student pilots. The simulator has dual controls to recreate the real life cockpit of aircraft in our fleet allowing both student and instructor to perform training flights or experience flights whatever the weather.

The Redbird MCX includes a dual yoke system and dual rudder pedals for complete student pilot and instructor control, the simulator has complete wrap around visuals allowing the pilot to visually see 180 degrees of view just like flying the real thing, the detail of scenery and aircraft textures is second to none and even includes details such as the landing gear struts.

Because the MCX is dual control it can also be used to teach students crew resource management to enable them to safely and effectively fly an aircraft when someone else is next to them in the cockpit, very useful and essential training for real-world situations before the pilot has any passengers seated behind them.

We will be offering the simulator as a flight experience to the general public to allow you to take control of an aircraft without stepping inside one or your feet leaving the ground, for our students the simulator will be invaluable and allow them to repeat and re-create training scenarios which would usually take time in the real world, resetting the flight after practising a forced landing will be as simple as a touch of a button.

With all these features comes the full motion simulation, the simulator is equipped with a 3 axis electric motion system that provides yaw, roll and pitch to recreate the exact feeling you get when flying a real aircraft, along with this is the ability to quickly change the cockpit configuration to various aircraft types. This investment is truly a very powerful training and experience tool that we invite members and visitors to have a go at.
